Episode 06: One Notebook Away From Authentic Self

We have the honor and privilege to hear from the Chief Human Resource Officer of the City of Minneapolis herself—Patience Ferguson (aka Ms. Patience).

Ms. Patience and I sit down to talk about what it means to find authentic self. Community built this woman, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t experience racism, retaliation, or change along the way. Through her transparency, we get to understand how she found her core values, authentic voice, and her heart behind helping others find theirs.

Wondering where to start? Ms. Patience has some tips for you!

  • Get a notebook, or use your phone, and write things out about yourself—write down your core values, your purpose, and what’s important to you

  • Dare to dream… it doesn’t cost you anything at all

    • Take little steps that get you closer to where you want to be and recognize that on that journey, you’ll refine your dream.

  • If you believe that you are experiencing retaliation or racism in the workplace, document everything!

    • Write the date, details, how you felt, save any paper trails or emails, and report to appropriate parties.
